Silver River Paddle/Camp Florida  2- day trip - April 1& 2, 2017   MBCKC will paddle Silver River on April 1st and camp in Suwannee River State Park that night (camping is optional & limited, you may overnight where you choose).  Paddlers have 2 options on Sunday, April 2nd - Paddle Suwannee River or drive to Wakulla River in St. Marks, FL and do an approximately 4.5 mile trip there before heading home.   MUST contact Tracy if you plan to attend.  tracy@thelannies.us

Silver River is in Marion County, FL and runs to the West of  Ocala National Forrest.  The river, which is regarded as being in pristine condition and fed by Silver Springs, flows through undeveloped woodland .  The water is crystal clear and takes on a silvery hue, thus the name.
Wildlife abounds and includes many types of turtles, alligator, anhinga, cormorant, white ibis, limpkin, wood ducks, several different types of heron and more!  Rhesus monkeys have lived in the Ocala Forrest since they were accidentally released in the  1930's and now they thrive.   There are over 100 troops and they like to come down to the water's edge to watch the paddlers!

Wakulla River

October 1st:
Jayson will launch at 10am Saturday, October 1st from Five Rivers Delta Resource Center.   Jayson invites everyone to come out and paddle a few miles with him, or simply cheer him on and give him a grand send-off as he begins his paddling adventure on The Great Loop.  Jayson is the first Canadian in recorded history to paddle the Great Loop via kayak and, we believe, the only paddler to begin and end right here in Mobile Bay.
Come out Saturday morning to meet Jayson, paddle with him, cheer him on, wave, take photos with Jayson, sign his kayak, etc.  Let's give Jayson a good ol' Southern welcoming and send off!  Follow the signs at Five Rivers to Jayson's launch site.   Five Rivers even has a brand new dock to launch from!     Plan to be there at least 20 minutes prior to launch if you would like to meet him and sign his boat prior to launching.
See you there!

June Meeting

Volunteer Needed
We are looking for a volunteer to lead/direct the June 7th MBCKC meeting.  As you know, this does not involve much.  We do not have a scheduled guest speaker for June, so whoever volunteers can basically do whatever they would like in the meeting...the floor is yours!
Please let me know if you would like to volunteer.   Email:  tracy@thelannies.us
I need to know by next week on May 24th.  If we don't have a volunteer, we will need to cancel the meeting.

Tracy Lannie

May Meeting
The next meeting will be Tuesday, May 3rd in the Longleaf room of 5 Rivers Delta Resource Center. Tonya Butler-Collins, who started the local chapter of Team River Runner (TRR), will be our guest speaker. Many of you had the opportunity to meet her at last month's "Movie Night" meeting. She will educate on the history of TRR as well as the chapter's goals for the future.

Tonya got involved with TRR in the Atlanta chapter in 2011 as a veteran participant. She moved to Daphne in July of 2014 to attend the United States Sports Academy on a full scholarship to finish her doctorate degree in sports sciences. Tonya, an ACA Level 3 River Kayak Instructor, started the chapter in April of 2015 as she saw a need for adaptive paddling in an area with over 105,000 disabled veterans. She is an 8 year US Army Veteran and a mom to a beautiful 13 year old girl who has been pulled in on this journey.
