July Meeting
The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 in the Tensaw Theater of Five Rivers Delta Resource Center.   Each month, MBCKC invites its members to host and/or coordinate our monthly meetings.  Jenny Manders, MBCKC member, has done just that!  Jenny has coordinated both the July and the August meetings, and both promise to be educational/interesting.  Below is an announcement for July's meeting.

The Mobile Tensaw Delta and Bluffs: A National Legacy
Guest Speaker: Bill Finch, Project Director for Friends of the Delta and Lead Horticulturist and Science Adviser with the Mobile Botanical Gardens.

There's a growing recognition that the Mobile-Tensaw Delta and Bluffs region is a national treasure on par with The Great Smoky Mountains, Yosemite or Yellowstone. Some believe its diversity of plants and animals would be unparalleled in the National Park System, and its rich human history, from thousand-year-old cities to Africatown to Blakeley Historic Park, make it a potential Global Heritage site.

How can we finally take advantage of this world class resource without destroying it? A group of local residents, the Friends of the Delta, is exploring the possibility of expanding opportunities for recreation, hunting, fishing, tourism and conservation in the Delta by tapping into the resources of the National Park System. If the efforts of the National Park Service can be added to the work already done by the state and others, the Mobile Tensaw Delta could become a national crown jewel, a world class draw bringing in tens of millions of dollars each year, while making communities around the bay more livable and enjoyable.

Join us in exploring those possibilities.
