OCTOBER CALENDAR OF EVENTS

PHAT WATER Kayak Challenge
Date: Saturday, October 9, 2004
Time: All Day
Place: Begins at Grand Gulf, MS and ends at Natchez, MS
Contact: click here for official website. The race begins at Grand Gulf and concludes at Natchez Landing, Natchez Under-The-Hill, in historic Natchez, Mississippi. The race is approximately forty-five miles long and will take most paddlers from five to seven hours to complete. An after race party and awards presentation will be hosted by the UNDER-THE-HILL-SALOON. Canoeists as well as kayakers are welcome.

Camping and Paddling - St Vincent Island, FL
Date: Saturday, October 16, 2004
Time: TBA
Place: St. Vincent Island

Comments: This is a camping trip to the Appalachicola Bay area. Mark plans at least a two night camp including a 13 mile paddle on Saturday.

Sand Island Lighthouse
Date: Saturday, October 16, 2004

Place: Sand Island Lighthouse south of Dauphin Island

Comments: This paddle will leave early morning to go to the lighthouse. Austin mentioned that a kayak instructor will be along on this trip.

Horn Island Paddle
Date: Saturday, October 30, 2004 and Sunday October 31
Time: TBA. Leaving with the outgoing tide.
Place: Launching from Pascagoula, MS
Contact: Larry McDuff 928-1582
Comments: This is a trip Larry has led before. Overnight primitive camping on the island. Return on Sunday. Phone Larry one week before to be included. The trip is weather dependent; cold front passage may cancel the trip.

Club Birthday Party
Date: To Be Announced at the November meeting
Place: Gary and Aven Warner's home
Comment: The time is still not firm because they are still cleaning up after the storm. Their home is on the bank of Dog River.

Gary Worob (850) 259-9337 is trying to get a canoe from Denver to
Fairhope. If someone with a roof rack is going that way, give Gary a
call please.

Harriet (e-mail Hvk1457@aol.com, phone 928-4568) is taking orders for
Tervis Tumblers with the club logo, in colors, on them.
Tervis Tumblers have a website www.tervis.com which shows the products.
The tumblers are available in three sizes:
12 oz $7.00 tumbler
16 oz $7.50 tumbler
17 oz $8.00 mug

The tumblers fit in cupholders or kayaks. All three are double wall
insulated, microwave and dishwasher safe. She will be collecting money
at the November meeting.
