Rob Nykvist informs us of a
DOWNRIVER paddling event on the Mississippi River:
The "PHAT WATER Kayak Challenge" will be held on October 9, 2004. The race egins at Grand Gulf and concludes at Natchez Landing, Natchez Under-The-Hill, in historic Natchez, Mississippi. The race is approximately forty-five miles long and will take most paddlers from five to seven hours to complete. An after race party and awards presentation will be hosted by the UNDER-THE-HILL-SALOON. Canoeists as well as kayakers are welcome.
[Editor's note: Bruce and I stopped at the Under-the-Hill-Saloon last fall, before starting a driving trip up the Natchez Trace. The bartender and barflies told us in entertaining detail about this annual paddle. It truly sounds like a blast.]
