Aquatic Plant Identification Guide
Now that the flowers are blooming, a lot of people are asking a lot of questions about which plants are which. A good resource for novices about aquatic plants is the West Florida Extension Service's plant guide. It's a deck of water-resistant (not water-proof) cards with a color picture of the plant on the front and additional information on the back, plus an index. I've been using one for years, and I enjoy it, though it doesn't include each and every plant we see here in the Delta. (For example, there is no card for cardinal flowers.)

Bruce likes my deck so much he decided to see if it's still available. He phoned the University of Florida at 1-800-226-1764. The number reaches the bookstore. He asked about the aquatic plant identification deck, SM 50. It is available for $10.00 plus $4.00 for shipping and handling. For those of us who prefer to pay by check rather than a credit card, the address is University of Florida, P.O. Box 110011, Gainesville, FL 32611.
