Comments: We are going to do a seven-mile point-to-point with put-in at Escatawpa Hollow Campground located on U.S. Hwy 98 on the left just before the bridge which is just before the Mississippi state border. If you are starting from east of I-65, take the I-65 exit 5B and head west on Moffett Road (U.S. Hwy 98). It is 22 miles to the campground, so plan your trip time accordingly. We will meet in Wilmer at 9:30 AM on the way to see how many vehicles, boats and drivers we have, so we can make shuttle plans before we get to the campground. The trip on the water will take about 3-3.5 hours plus time for lunch and any other stops. Please bring lunch, fluids, sunscreen, etc. There will be a $5 per boat launch/parking fee paid to the campground operators.
The Parks and Land Management Committee for Baldwin County is meeting with the public to discuss future plans at county parks. The meetings will be held as follows:
- Bay Minette, Monday, November 17, at 6:30 p.m., at the County Administration Building
- Foley, Tuesday, November 18, at 6:30 p.m., at the City of Foley Chambers
- Fairhope, Thursday, November 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the Satellite Courthouse
The county employee who is the point of contact is Stan Arbaczauskas, phone 580-1655 x7251.
Editor's note: Bruce and I (Julie) have been checking as many designated county water accesses as we can. We have been unable to find several, because, obviously, the adjacent landowners have encroached on them. I want to hear and have input into what the county proposes to do about this. I also want to learn more about how we can make some of these county accesses more kayak-friendly. I hope we'll talk about this county committee process at the next club meeting and that anyone who is as interested in this issue as we are will let us know.
