Based on flurry of e-mails I received this morning with questions and contradictory information about obtaining a permit for Boiling Creek, I telephoned Eglin AFB Natural Resources Division at 850-882-4164. The nice lady who answered the phone advised me as follows:
1. Permits MAY be going up to $7 this year. She will not know for sure until next week, at the earliest. She said she has been charging $7 for the last couple of months, but now there is some question whether she may have to write refund checks for such people. She recommends that if you want to go ahead and order now, just send TWO checks, one for $5 and one for $2, and she will cash them both or send the $2 back, as needed.
2. Each person over 16 must have a permit. So if you're paddling tandem, both adults need individual permits.
I'll let you know when I learn anything further. Please let me know if you learn anything further :-)
We have a new trip report at www.paddlereport.blogspot.com, by Brint Adams, on the trip he recently led to the Bottle Creek Indian Mound
Also at www.paddlereport.blogspot.com, Bruce has provided us with an INDISPENSABLE chart of mileage counts to put-ins in north-central Baldwin County.
