Tony Kramer writes us:
FYI - On Aug 30,31 and Sept 1 I will be holding a surf rescue class at Gulf Shores with a day paddle to Sand Island Lighthouse on Sept 1. Anyone interested can check out the info on my web site: www.theseakayaker.com. Helmets are needed for the course. Anyone who needs a helmet can use one of mine. The course includeds Eskimo rescues, rolls, wet exits, self- and assisted-rescues, all in surf conditions. Students will need to be proficient with advanced strokes; skulling draw, high and low brace turns, reverse turns and strokes, 180-degree turns and have a good roll in calm water. ( B.C.U. 2 or 3 star rating or it's equivalent needed.)
This is a good class for those students who wish to be safe with any ocean kayaking. Assisted and Eskimo rescues are needed for ANY group padddling and should be done within a few minutes of capsize.
If sea conditions are calm we will move to the Pass where there is always a standing wave outside the entrance. We can still work on rescues and rolls in calm conditions, then move on to the Flora-Bama!
Hope to see you on the water!
