MASSEY'S GATOR CHASE
CANOE, KAYAK AND PIROGUE RACE

The CAJUN CANOE AND KAYAK CLUB is proud to announce the upcoming Canoe, Kayak, and Pirogue Races on September 27, 2003, on beautiful Bayou Gauche in Southern Louisiana. Bayou Gauche is a natural waterway located 25 miles south of New Orleans in the heart of Louisiana swampland. The bayou is a beautiful scenic waterway with cypress swamps and fishing vessels lining its banks. Many of the fishing vessels will line the racecourse to cheer the competitors on.

A large turnout is anticipated in the canoe and kayak categories, with participants coming from several states. There will be medals and prizes for first, second, and third place finishers in each category. We will also give other prizes of various sorts. Registration fee will be $20.00 before September 13 and $25 thereafter. Registration includes a T-shirt, a post - race meal, and a ticket for a door prize drawing.

Staging area: Badeaux Lane, off of Highway 306, Bayou Gauche, Louisiana, next to the pumping station

Course: The races will be held on Bayou Des Allemands, which is flat, deep water with virtually no current. The marathon race will be a loop course of six miles. The short course will be a loop course of three miles.
