NOVEMBER CALENDAR OF EVENTS

The calendar of events is short this month, in keeping with the changing of the seasons. Bob Andrews reminded us at the meeting tonight, however, that there is no better time to paddle Whiskey Ditch than right now. The burr marigold and pickerel weed are in bloom. This is a great suggestion if you're looking for a place to paddle when the weather clears.

November 17, Sunday: Club Anniversary Party
Time: 3:00 p.m.
Place: Jane Agee's house on the Magnolia River
Contact: Jane Agee, 251-965-7154
Comments: This is one of the biggest, funnest events of our club's year. Everyone is invited, including (especially :-) new people. Please RSVP and bring a covered dish for potluck.

November 18, Monday: the Leonid Meteor Shower
Time: 4:30 to dawn
Comments: The view of this phenomenon from Mobile Bay was spectacular last year, and we won't get the chance to see it again for a while. Stay tuned to the television, your favorite astronomical new sources, and this website for news on the best places to view this phenomenon.

November 19, Tuesday: Full Moon Paddle WITH PARTIAL ECLIPSE AND METEOR SHOWER
Time: 6:00 p.m., unless Bob changes his mind :-)
Place: put in at Byrnes Lake and paddle to Gravine Island
Contact: Bob Andrews: h/w 344-8664; cell 367-4144.
Comments: This paddle is a club favorite, and if the weather is kind, this should be a particularly good paddle because we will have both a full moon and the remains of a meteor shower. Bring food and refreshments, and at least one white light for your boat.

Thanks to Keith Golden of the Alabama State Lands Division for stopping by tonight's meeting to update us on the Bartram Canoe Trail (click on http://www.dcnr.state.al.us/bartram.htm). This is a project of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (click on http://www.dcnr.state.al.us). The DCNR is also working on the completion of its Rivers Discovery Expedition (click on http://www.dcnr.state.al.us/riverdiscovery/index.asp).

These are all projects of interest to all us paddlers, and Keith Golden says he'd be glad to receive our comments and suggestions. His phone number is 205-580-2063.

------------

Our next regular meeting will be on December 2, and we're thinking it will be the same as last year: a potluck at the FYC. This is a good time to meet new people, and a good time for new people to come meet us. Stay tuned to this website for further details.
