October 2, Wednesday: Set your VCRs (again)
The "County Road 5" segment on the MBCAKC has not yet shown on Channel 5 WKRG-TV, because it was pre-empted by Tropical Storm Isidore. It will be shown during the 6:00 p.m. news on Wednesday, October 2. If it is pre-empted because of yet another storm, it will be shown during the 6:00 p.m. news next Wednesday, October 9.

October 9, Wednesday: Whiskey Ditch
Contact: Bob h/w 344-8664, cell 367-4144
Time: 6:00 p.m.
Place: Tensaw Eco Tours on the Causeway
Comments: The burr marigolds are in bloom in the Ditch at this time of year. Plan to join us for dinner afterwards, probably at one of the Causeway restaurants.

October 12 or 19: Learn to test water quality
Contact: Fritz 990-5987,
Comments: Catherine Golden will hold a class at least one Saturday this month to teach the public how to test water quality. She is seeking volunteers to test water in and around Fly Creek and Rock Creek. (FYI, County Road 13 is about to be extended/connected, which is expected to have an impact on both of these creeks.) Call Fritz for the time, date, and place, which have not been set as of this writing.

October 17-20: Okeefenokee Swamp
Contact: Bob h/w 344-8664, cell 367-4144
Comments: This is a joint trip with the West Florida Canoe Club. We will car camp at the Stephen Foster State Park and make day trips into the swamp. Only primitive campsites are available at this time, but it is always possible that cabins will become available due to cancellations.

October 20, Sunday: Delta scouting expedition from Rice Creek Landing
Contact: Matt h) 343-1196 w) 341-1712
Place: meet at the BP across from the Stagecoach Restaurant in Stockton, put in at Rice Creek Landing
Time: 10:00 a.m.
Comments: The destination of this paddle will be a WMA designated campsite between Bayous Jessamine and Tallapoosa, where we will stop for lunch. Matt's goal is to scout this location for a possible overnight trip in the future. Bring lunch. We will have dinner at the Stagecoach after the paddle.

November 16, Saturday: Annual Anniversary Bash
Contact: Jane 965-7154
Place: Jane's house on the Magnolia River
Comments: Bring a covered dish, BYOB. All are welcome. This is a major annual event for us. Gene will e-mail directions to Jane's house closer to the time of the event. Further information will be available at the next club meeting, on Tuesday, November 5.

Jeff plans to do some kayak-surfing if we get some surf from Hurricane Lili. Call him if you're interested. (I don't have his phone number. Maybe Fritz or Matt has it. Or maybe Jeff will send me or call me with his phone number.)

Bob expects to announce a flash paddle in Boiling Creek this month.

Boiling Creek permits expired as of October 1. The instructions for getting a new permit are posted below, in the "FAQs." If you don't want to send a copy of your driver's license, you may simply send them your permit from last year. Some of us who already have the map that Eglin gives you with the permit are going to ask Eglin not to send us another (save a tree and some postage).
