WKRG Paddle Report
Wed morning, 5:00 a.m., August 21, 2002, Buzbee Landing on Bay Minette Basin; 15 paddlers attended the live filming of the WKRG channel 5 morning news with Jere Hough and his camera-man Kevin. Bob Andrews did a fantastic job as commentator for the group. He orchestrated all 15 kayaker and canoers moves at the same time he was being interviewed live on the broadcast. Jeff Breit demonstrated the eskimo roll, much to the amazement of Jere Hough, and I am certain, the viewing public. There was a kayak race between Fritz and Harriet - to show the speed of kayaks (and yes, Fritz won), and much synchronized free-style paddling by all the other members. There has been much response to the show, with Tony Chavers (Fairhope Boat Company) having received numerous calls about the club. We had a wide representation of boats for the viewers to see. Despite the fact that as 7 a.m. approached we began loosing some paddlers to work committments, the representation was wonderful and the exposure for the club couldn't have been better. Many thanks to all who showed up. It was a great team effort and everyones efforts are appreciated. This is why we are such a successful club.
In addition to the live program, we will be featured on the County Road 5 segment coming in the near future. Leana Hanson, our inside connection at WKRG will be contacting Gene Boothe when the date is set for our show. He will post it on the web-site so all can set their vcr's.
Allow us all to express our appreciation to Bob Andrews for representing our club so well, to Leana Hanson, for setting this program up for us, and for the team of Jere and Kevin at WKRG, for spending the morning with us. They are 2 great guys who, I believe, had a great time with us.
Breakfast followed at the Daphne Waffle House at 9:00 a.m.
