Mark your calendars:

The First Annual Dog Paddle will be held Saturday, May 18, 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM at the Scenic Yacht Basin Marina on Dog River.

This family fun day features kayak, canoe, and rowboat races for the serious and non-serious paddler. The Scenic Yacht Basin Marina formerly the River Yacht Basin) is located on Scenic Drive on the east side of Dog River just north of the confluence with Halls Mill Creek.

The Dog Paddle is sponsored by Dog River Clearwater Revival, the Dauphin Island Parkway Merchants Association, and the Scenic Yacht Basin Marina. Proceeds from the event will go to Dog River Clearwater Revival, a non-profit association dedicated to improving water quality in Dog River and its tributaries. Funds generated will be applied to projects with potential to affect the river in a positive way.

Entry fee is $20.00 per boat. It includes one t-shirt and entitles that boat to be entered in as many events as desired. Extra t-shirts will be available for sale. For those who do not own an appropriate craft, kayaks and canoes will be available to try out and local vendors will have displays. You can even enter an event in a borrowed boat if you pay the entry fee. There will be some land based activities for children, and food and beverages will be available for a reasonable charge. Bob Haskins of Keep Mobile Beautiful writes us:
Due to a variety of problems we have decided to delay our cleanup of the Toulmin Spring Branch/Three Mile Creek area. There are major problems with accessibility and volunteer safety at this time. It will take some heavy equipment to clear a pathway before we can get to the area. Sorry for the delay. I will let you know when we reschedule.

Thanks.
